Last night I made the pilgrimage to Amoeba Records down in The Haight (TM) to pick up the just released that day Murder City Devils live album. It's great and a fun way to renew my affection for the now sadly departed band, and I especially loved that there was a love song to us, the fans, as the last song (which was a new song entirely). It was a cool song and I especially liked it because I wrote a love letter to the Murder City Devils right here on this very site. I still miss the Devils, and I'm really sad that Mike from godheadSilo/Enemymine/Dead Low Tide is still sick months later. I'm pretty sure this is why the post-MCD project Dead Low Tide broke up in the first place. Sniffle. Poor Mike! Get better!
I also found a Cradle of Thorns album finally. Download This is a fucking awesome album with a really unfortunate cover. I'll probably do a whole review of this, but it's a lot more metal and a lot more angry than the Videodrone self-titled album they did three years later. There are some really awesome, awesome tracks on it. It's still industrial, it's just raging, furious industrial. Kind of along the lines of White Zombie, but less cheesy, angrier, and with a more coherent sense of humor. You gotta love that last track, 'The Golden Butt Plug Puppet Show'.
I also finally got Skinny Puppy's Last Rights. Still not their best album, but it's the one EVERYONE who has vaguely heard of Skinny Puppy has... usually they don't have any others. Which is sad, because Too Dark Park, Remission, VIVIsectVI and a lot of others are WAY better than Last Rights. That said, it's still a good album, it's just not a wonderful SKINNY PUPPY album.
I also got Hole's Live Through This, which I feel vaguely dirty for buying. I've always liked Hole even though I wasn't supposed to. I'm not sure why, exactly. It might be the sometimes feministic lyrics. It might be the fact that Courtney Love is an insane bitch in public... which might be an act, of course. It might be that Celebrity Skin was horrible. I'm not sure... whatever the reason, I was not supposed to like them, but I do anyway. So I got the album. 'Violet' is an awesome song. After I've listened to it a few more times I'll give better impressions.
Oh yeah! And I got the Flaming Lips' She Don't Use Jelly maxi-single for Hellbunny. The Flaming Lips are cool.
